Recently, we introduced you to Sydney, who fought cancer in her sophomore year of high school after experiencing lower back pain that referred her to Dr. Nader Nassif, a CHOC pediatric orthopedic surgeon.
After an MRI, Dr. Nassif found that Sydney's pain was caused by a pulled muscle. However, he also saw something unrelated: a small spot on her upper right femur that he wanted to keep an eye on. Three months later, Dr. Nassif diagnosed Sydney with a rare childhood cancer called Ewing's sarcoma.
The key to successful treatment of Ewing's sarcoma is early detection. Because of Dr, Nassif's expertise and vigilance, Sydney's dangerous cancer was caught very early.
The world-class care Sydney received at CHOC was designed just for her age group, and this highly personal care can only be provided through the support of our generous donors. Today, Sydney is cancer-free, studying communications in college and looks forward to a healthy, happy future.
With only a few hours left of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, please consider making a gift of any amount to help children like Sydney have the best chance for a future free from cancer.
